Comediettes

Directed by Emily Kollin

Assistant Director: Kyle Borcz

Audition!

Auditions will be held March 9 & 10 at First United Methodist Church:
1700 Mitch Daniels Blvd, West Lafayette, from 6:30pm - 8:30pm.
You only need to attend one night, but are welcome to come to both.

No preparation is needed, as actors will read selections from the script. That being said, PLEASE READ THROUGH THE MATERIALS BELOW BEFORE YOU AUDITION.

Have you ever wanted to be part of something new and exciting?

In 2023, Acorn Players was thrilled to workshop Laser Webber’s touching and witty musical “Teaching a Robot to Love” and in 2026, alongside Director Emily Kollin, we are excited to announce auditions for our workshop of Stephanie Weber’s new and powerful dark comedy - “Comediettes.”

This workshop production is an opportunity to work with the playwright as you help bring her new play to life!

We are looking for 3 female identifying actors and 1 male identifying actor:

Due to the content of this play, we will not cast anyone under 21.

HOLLY MILBANKS – late 30s, female. Holly is tough, gritty, works hard, and cares about telling good jokes. She sees femininity as detracting from her power onstage - and she has a lot of power onstage. Her heroes are primarily male comedians and she has earned being “one of the guys”.

GERI – 40s, female. Geri is an amalgamation of a lot of powerful women in the comedy industry. She is a powerful club owner who cares about her comedians, but she cares about her business most of all.

APRIL FERNANDEZ – early-to-mid 20s, female. April is inspired by female comedians in the post-MeToo and post-pandemic world. These female comedians have less tolerance for putting up with prejudice. These comedians are self-assured and not afraid to be vulnerable and

feminine. In fact, they harness it. April is also not a traditional standup. She does modern “alt” comedy which often verges onto performance art. Her jokes are inventive, but they aren’t as tight as traditional joke structures have been and instead rely on personality within the

performance.

*PLEASE NOTE: This character gets several comedy-style pies in the face in one scene; actor must be willing to perform this scene.*  (if you are unsure, we will be offering to pie potential Aprils at auditions to see if it’s something you could/want to do!)

SUNNY HILSON – late 30s/early 40s male. Sunny is your typical egotistical comic. He has swagger. He lives for being onstage, probably harming personal relationships for the sake of his career. He can be compared to “canceled” comedians like Chris D’Elia, Louis CK, Shane Gillis, TJ Miller, etc. He’s the kind of guy who would be a guest on Joe Rogan’s podcast.

“Comediettes” outlines the story of three female comedians, all from different generations, as they grapple with the news that an alleged abuser is headlining their show that night.

-

That’s where it starts! It’s funny, it’s raw, it’s a bit disturbing. The first half is the setup and the second half is the punchline.
